TEHRAN (NIPNA) – Iranian Minister of Petroleum Javad Owji announced the inauguration of the Hoveizeh Gas Refinery project in the Persian Gulf, which will help in processing the sour and toxic gases that have affected the environment of Khuzestan.

This gas refinery project will process and sweeten the gas produced from joint fields, and the light compounds produced will be injected into the national gas distribution trunk-line, contributing greatly to balancing the gas.

The project's first phase capacity is 250 million cubic feet per day, and the second phase with a total capacity of 500 million cubic feet per day will be opened by the end of the current Iranian calendar year which began on March 20 with an investment of $1.4 billion, he said.

The heavy compounds produced by the Hoveizeh Refinery will be sent to Bandar Imam Petrochemical Plant through a pipeline, and the feed of this complex is also supplied.

The petroleum minister also promised that the gas and liquefied gas plant 3100 in Ilam will be ready to open by the end of this calendar year, and the collection of associated gases and development of petroleum refineries will also be focused on.

The project's total investment is worth $15 billion, and it is aimed at increasing production and realizing the slogan of the year, which is named "inflation control and production growth."

The production figure has reached 3.1 million barrels per day, and the operation of the thermal power plant west of Karun will add another 160 MW to the national grid.

Seven investment packages have been planned to collect flare gases related to oil, and the goal is to process all gases with oil and flare gas until the end of the 13th government.
