Freiborz Karimaee made the statement today (Tuesday, 5th of Tir) during
the thirty-second annual meeting of CEOs of petrochemical companies,
emphasizing the role of the petrochemical industry in the country's economy in
"The petrochemical industry, with its current nominal capacity of
approximately 92 million metric tons annually, produced around 70 million
metric tons of products in 2022, of which approximately 40 million metric tons
were final saleable products," Karimaee said.
He added, "Last year, approximately 28 million metric tons of
petrochemical products were exported, and 12 million metric tons were sold
domestically, generating a total revenue of $27 billion."
The vice chairman of the Petrochemical Industry Employers' Association
continued, "In 2022, the share of petrochemical companies' exports from
non-oil exports reached approximately 30%."
Regarding the performance of the petrochemical industry in the
country's economy, Karimaee stated, "Despite the sanctions, the
petrochemical industry has exported 120 million metric tons of petrochemical products
worth $61 billion from 2018 to 2022, with 81% of it injected into the NIMA
He further elaborated, "Over 27 million metric tons of raw
materials for downstream industries, valued at $26 billion, and more than 11
million metric tons of urea fertilizers, priced at contractual rates and valued
at $3.2 billion, have been supplied by petrochemical companies to the
agricultural sector during the peak of sanctions from 2018 to 2022."
The thirty-second annual meeting of CEOs of petrochemical companies is
being held in the holy city of Mashhad for two days (5th and 6th of Tir) and is
hosted by the National Petrochemical Industries Company, with the participation
of Maroun, Aryasasol, and Ghadir petrochemical companies.
