TEHRAN (NIPNA) – Iran’s petrochemical sector is intensifying its social responsibility initiatives in the Makran region, with an emphasis on structured collaboration among industry players, a senior official said on Sunday.

Mohsen Avazdokht, Social Affairs Advisor to the CEO of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC), highlighted the importance of targeted corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, urging greater cohesion through the Strategic Council of Petrochemical Companies in the region.

“The petrochemical industry is not only an economic powerhouse but also holds extensive commitments to the community and the environment,” Avazdokht said, according to the state-run NIPNA news agency.

Companies operating in the Chabahar area, including Negin Makran Petrochemical Development Co., have implemented measures aimed at improving local living standards. These efforts include hosting specialized forums, establishing crisis management task forces, and supporting cultural, sports, and environmental initiatives.

Avazdokht stressed the need for greater coordination through the Strategic Council, which was established a year ago to consolidate the industry’s social responsibility efforts.

“The council seeks to enhance synergy among companies to maximize the impact of CSR programs,” he noted.

Efforts to equip the local workforce with necessary skills are also gaining momentum. Initiatives such as the establishment of a petrochemical vocational school and specialized training programs aim to create sustainable employment opportunities and shift public perception of the industry.

“The key to long-term social engagement is investing in education and workforce development,” Avazdokht said. “By providing targeted training, we are not only fostering employment but also reshaping the relationship between the petrochemical industry and the community.”

Avazdokht also emphasized the need for closer cooperation between industry, government, and civil organizations to enhance the effectiveness of social responsibility programs. He added that performance indicators would be refined to better assess the contributions of participating companies.
